"Cancer: Causes and Prevention"
Lesson Overview
This lesson will give students a basic introduction to cancer. It will also allow students to investigate a few of the causes and ways to prevent certain cancers. Sometimes the introduction of the topic causes a lot of worry and concern - due to the fact that so many students will know someone that currently has cancer or has died of cancer.
Goals and Objectives
1. Give students a basic introduction to the hallmarks of cancer. 2. Provide an opportunity for students to investigate some of the causes and ways to prevent certain cancers. 3. Create a forum in which students can share information and stories in a seminar format.
Common Misconceptions
I have had students in the past explain on tests that you "catch" cancer.....I'm not sure if they think that you can catch it like a cold - or that they are still unsure of what cancer actually is.
