What is Cancer?


This lesson will explore the differences between a normal cell and a cancerous cell. Material will be used that explains the differences in cell growth, cell transcription and translation between normal cells and cancerous cells.

Students will go to the website Inside Cancer and read over the the sections Hallmarks of Cancer and Pathway to Cancer.

Goals and Objectives 1. Students will learn the differences between normal cells and cancerous cells. 2. Students will describe the differences between cell machinery in normal and cancerous cells. 3. Students will learn the changes that occur inside the cells of a cancerous cell. 4. Terminology associated with cancer will be reviewed. 5. Students will understand the process of cell transcription and translation and how it relates to generating cancerous cells.
