Papilloma Virus& Cancer

Lesson Overview Have students become familiar with the causes and preventive measures for cervical cancer.



Goals and Objectives

1. Be able to link Papilloma virus infection with cervical cancer. 2. Demonstrate a knowledge of how cancers are acquired. 3. Be able to discuss preventive measures associated with cervical cancer.

Common Misconceptions

1. There is nothing that can be done to prevent cervical cancer.



The Lesson

Preparation Before class: (materials, handouts etc.) 1. Poster board paper & materials 2. Alternate/ computers for Powerpoint presentations. 3. Survey handout.

Describe any pre-class preparation necessary for the lesson. 1. Instructor should view the following links. Optional to present students with links or have students research independently. [1] [2] During class

Describe the activity. 1. Students will take a brief survey on cancer prior to examination of materials related to cervical cancer.

2. Have small groups of students go over their answers to the survey and discuss any misconceptions they may have had.

3. Research Human Papilloma viruses and how they cause cancers using computer in class.

4. They will then make a school poster board or Powerpoint presentation, educating others about Papilloma virus and cancer.

Time required

Estimate the amount of time for each part of the lesson. 1 hr.
