Nicotine from Nicotiana tabacum is known as one of the common causes of lung cancer whereas taxol from yew plant prevents breast cancer.

Goals and Objectives

Students should be able:

             * understand cell growth and cell division (cell cycle)
             * recognize basics of cell membrane and its functions
             * understand chemical nature of plant metabolites
             * explain basics of enzyme functions
             * list causes of cancer and suggest some preventions

Common Misconceptions

Plant products cause no harm. Most cancers are inherited. Only few things cause cancer. Cancer is the disease of elderly.
